When Music Meets Beer

Here at Beers Around Me, the only thing that we love as much as beer is music. After running across a few news stories about musician collaborated beers earlier this year, we got to wondering just how many music related beers were out there. The answer surprised us as we found way more than we origianlly expected. All together we found nearly 100 different music related beers, with 3 Floyds Brewing Company and Dogfish Head leading the way. There are new music-related beers coming out all the time, so make sure to check back often for any updates. So grab a nice cold beer, turn up the volume and discover some new music. Who knows, maybe your favorite band has brewed a beer too!

311 - Amber Ale

311 - Amber Ale

Rock Brothers Brewing/Nebraska Brewing Company/Cigar City Brewing

Amber Ale

ABV - 5.5%

Originally brewed in 2015 to celebrate the bands 25th anniversary, 311 Amber Ale (really, could there be a more fitting name) is a true collaboration in every sense of the word. The band was involved in every step of the process, from selecting flavor profiles all the way down naming and designing the final product, ensuring that the beer aligned with the bands vision. In late summer 2016, 311 Amber Ale will be canned and released throughout the South, Southern California and select markets across the midwest.

AC/DC Premium Lager

AC/DC - Lager

Karlsberg Brauerei

ABV - 4.8%

Known for their straight-ahead approach to rock n' roll, it shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone to see AC/DC have their own beer. Brewed in Germany, the AC/DC lager promises to "fire up your tongue like TNT" perhaps due to the fact that Karlsberg brewed the beer in strict accordance to the German purity law of 1516. Although the beer seems to be difficult to come by in the US, fans overseas shouldn't have trouble finding this hard rocking lager.

Black Me Stout

Against Me! - Black Me Stout

Champion Brewing Company

American Stout

ABV - 6%

A few years ago, Against Me! guitarist James Bowman was working on some recordings with Fat Mike from NOFX. While in the studio Bowman tried the NOFX collaborative beer Stickin' In My IPA from Champion Brewing Company. Bowman then tweeted to Champion brew master Hunter Smith that he liked the beer and was interested in a collaboration of his own. A short time later, Against Me! and Champion teamed up for the Black Me Stout (source) a smooth, full-bodied stout with just enough punch to make it stand out.

Ragnarok Porter

Amon Amarth - Ragnarok

3 Floyds Brewing Co.

Aesir Porter

ABV - 8.2%

In 2011, Munster, Indiana's iconic 3 Floyds Brewing Co. teamed up with Swedish viking metal masters Amon Amarth for one of their most daring collaborations to date. Ragnarok checks in at a hefty 8.2% ABV and is brewed with a touch of honey and smoked malt giving the beer a hearty and robust flavor. As promised, Ragnarok was indeed a "beer for the endtimes" as the brew has been retired with no announced plans of recreating its mayhem.

Blood of the Sunsets IPA

At the Gates - Blood of the Sunsets

3 Floyds Brewing Co.

ABV - 7.2%

1995 saw the release of Slaughter of the Soul, the seminal album from Swedish melodic death metal legends At the Gates. Hailed as the leaders of the "Gothenburg Sound," At the Gates changed the course of an entire genre before their nearly decade-long hiatus. After reforming in 2008 the band again put the metal scene in a stranglehold, punishing and captivating audiences worldwide. Their collaboration with 3 Floyds is another addition to an already stellar career. The hoppy, crimson IPA has a touch of Icelandic sea salt, giving the beer a distinct flavor. Brewed only once, Blood of the Sunsets may be hard to come by but it's worth hunting down.

Barenaked Ladies Strong Beer.

Barenaked Ladies - BNL Strong Beer

Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery

Imperial Stout

ABV - 11.0%

In one of the more unexpected entries on this list, Ontario's Barenaked Ladies got together with Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery to create an Imperial Chocolate Stout, and it's a bruiser. Coming in at 11% ABV, the BNL Strong Beer which was brewed with Ecuadorian cocoa nibs is sweet but strong, the kind of thing you don't soon forget. Kind of like the bands 1998 hit "One Week." Go ahead, hit that play button. If this is the kind of beer the Barenaked Ladies were drinking while writing this song, we finally know why they kept losing their shirts.

Bafomet Russian Imperial Stout.

Behemoth - Bafomet

Russian Imperial Stout

ABV - 11.6%

In what may be the most successful band/brewery collaboration yet, Polish blackened death legends Behemoth teamed up with the relatively new Perun Craft brewery to unleash their beer unto the world. To date the partnership has released four different beers, the latest offering being the massive Bafomet Russian Imperial Stout. At close to 12% ABV, Bafomet has the ability to lay you out! Sadly, Bafomet appears to only be available in Poland.

Heretyk American Amber Ale.

Behemoth - Heretyk

American Amber Ale

ABV - 5.5%

The third beer that Behemoth and Perun teamed up on is the American Amber Ale called Heretyk. With a hop-forward smell and citrus, mango and resin tasting notes, Heretyk sounds unlike any American Amber Ale we've ever tried, but delicious nonetheless. That being said, like the rest of the Behemoth/Perun portfolio, Heretyk is only available in their native Poland.

Profanum Black IPA.

Behemoth - Profanum

Black IPA

ABV - 5.6%

Profanum was the second beer released Behemoth and Perun. The Black IPA checks in at a reasonable 5.6% ABV and has a clear citrus aroma, but with notes of coffee and chocolate. Sounds good right? Hopefully Behemoth and Perun will get into the export business in the near future so we can finally give this a try!

Sacrum Belgian IPA

Behemoth - Sacrum

Belgian IPA

ABV - 6.2%

Halfway through 2015, Behemoth got together with Polish startup brewery with the idea of collaborating on a line of beers. The first of those releases was Sacrum, a Belgian-style IPA. Sacrum showcases a 6.2% ABV and an aroma of exotic fruits including mango, pineapple and passion fruit. It's hard to say whether Behemoth and Perun knew that Sacrum was just the beginning of their partnership, or if they had any idea just how popular and sought-after the beers would become.
