Sensory Series v1 Ale

Lower Dens - Sensory Series v.1

Stillwater Artisanal

Spiced Ale

ABV - 6.0%

Baltimore's Lower Dens might not seem like the typical band to work on a craft beer collaboration, then again, Stillwater Artisanal isn't your typical craft brewer. Lower Dens was chosen as the first artist to be featured on Stillwater's Sensory Series, which aims to give the consumer a full sensory experience with sound, sight, smell, touch, and taste. The beer itself is a Hibiscus Ale that's based on an interpretation of the Lower Dens song "In the End is the Beginning." The beer was a limited batch that was only brewed once and released in 2012.

Gladness Craft Lager

Madness - Gladness

Madness Brewing Co.

Lager

ABV - 4.2%

Hailing from Camden Town in London, Madness was one of the more notable bands leading the 2-tone ska revival throughout the nation in the late 70s and early 80s. Still soldiering on nearly forty years later, Madness decided to take on a new venture and in 2014 they founded the Madness Brewing Company. Partnering with Portobello Brewery, Madness has released three beers thus far including their signature beer, the craft lager Gladness which "uses a two tone hit of fine malts and blended aromatic hops."

Lovestruck Premium Amber Ale

Madness - Lovestruck

Madness Brewing Co.

Amber Ale

ABV - 4.4%

Another beer in the Madness Brewing Company portfolio is the Lovestruck Amber Ale. Named after a song from their 1999 album Wonderful, the beer is a hoppy amber ale with floral and berry hop character followed by coffee and hazelnut aromas. According to the band, "it's a beer to savour and enjoy with friends and good conversation."

Night Boat London Porter

Madness - Night Boat

Madness Brewing Co.

London Porter

ABV - 5.0%

Named in homage of the track "Night Boat to Cairo" from Madness' seminal 1979 album One Step Beyond, the Night Boat London Porter is brewed with wanderlust in mind. Described as "packed to the rafters with cappucino, chocolate, hazelnut and dark fruit aromas," The Night Boat is one beer we'd love to get our hands on. Unfortunately like the rest of the Madness beers, they seem to be only available in the UK.

Choice Beer Brown Ale

Marky Ramone's Choice Beer

Guineu

Brown Ale

ABV - 6.0%

Drummer Marky Ramone was a member of the groundbreaking punk band The Ramones for the better part of 13 years making him the longest tenured drummer for the New York punks. The Ramones themselves inspire images of loud amps, sticky floors at CBGB's and most of all, really cheap beer. So it's kind of surprising that Marky collaborated with Spanish brewer Guineu to create a Brown Ale. That's not to say that Choice Beer is bad or anything because, well, we just don't know. It was a limited offering brewed and sold (from what we can tell) only in Spain, so the next time you're cruising in Andalusia, pick some up and let us know if it's worth the trip.

Black Tongue Double Black IPA

Mastodon - Black Tongue

Signature Brew

Double Black IPA

ABV - 8.3%

Mastodon's collaboration with the UK's Signature Brew was a beast. Black Tongue is a Double Black IPA which features Mosaic and Magnum hops delivers the "pallet crushing" effect that the band was going for. Unfortunately, The Black Tongue DIPA looks to be a limited release in the UK which means it's likely very hard to find anymore in the US.

Mother Puncher IPA

Mastodon - Mother Puncher

Mikkeller

IPA

ABV - 6.6%

2015 saw Mastodon team up with Copenhagen's Mikkeller to unleash the Mother Puncher IPA. A twist from a traditional IPA, the Mother Puncher is a farmhouse IPA which utilizes brettanomyces and passionfruit to give the beer a sweet and somewhat tart kick.

The Hunter Unfiltered Lager

Mastodon - The Hunter

Mahrs Brau

Unfiltered Lager

ABV - 5.2%

Mastodon joined forces with Mahrs Brau in 2012 to create The Hunter, which is described as "a chuggable but deliciously complex unfiltered classic Frankonian keller/lager." Although an import, this one is much easier to find in the US than most of the other beers on this list.

A Tout Le Monde Belgian Style Saison

Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde

Unibroue

Belgian-style Saison

ABV - 4.5%

Early in 2016, Megadeth's leader Dave Mustaine announced that Megadeth would be pairing up with Quebec's Unibroue to release the first ever Megadeth beer called A Tout Le Monde. The Belgian-style saison is set to launch in Canada later in the year with a wider distribution to follow. At a mild, nearly sessionable 4.5% ABV, the dry hopped A Tout Le Monde sounds like the perfect counterpart for running out of a sweaty moshpit. Enjoy one then head back in for more!

Metallica Budweiser

Metallica - Budweiser

Anheuser-Busch

Lager

ABV - 5.0%

It may be had to believe, but Metallica has never collaborated with a brewer on a craft beer. That's right, the band who was also loosly refered to as Alcoholica in the '80s has gone beerless. Until now...well, sort of. To celebrate their two shows in Quebec in 2015, Metallica licensed their name to be on Budweiser cans that were to be given out at the shows. The came in cases of 15 and 24 beers and have gone on to become quite the collectors item. Oddly enough, Metallica's ex-guitarist/nemesis Dave Mustaine of Megadeth also collaborated with a brewer in Quebec, and in the case of which is better? Well, I think we all know who wins that contest.
